Leading with Health

Jul 29, 2019

The way we perceive our world influences our reality. For good or ill, we base our decisions on our perceptions, which can even alter the course of our lives. In this episode, I talk about the impact of our perceptions on healthcare and society as a whole.

Highlights include:

3:18 – Not teaching a basic communication skill nearly caused new nurses to give up on the profession.

6:54 – “What we perceive, we decide is a concrete, fixed reality and, in fact, it’s nothing of the sort.”

7:40 – The link between the human mind and quantum physics.

10:03 – “Our perception very much shapes our entire world and narrows our probabilities down very concretely … Our thinking becomes very rigid and we start going down a path that is not the only path but feels to us as if it is.”

11:36 – “Perception is a physical thing but it is also a mental thing, a road-block. It becomes something that alters how we think about things but is also, in some cases, literally changing who we are.”

12:25 – “Perhaps reality is far more malleable and shapeable than we realize.”

12:35 – “I would suggest that we are shaping our reality unconsciously even more than we are shaping it consciously.”

12:50 – “The rigidity in which we hold our perceptions causes everything to seem to be that way. That’s just the way our brains perceive things. So even when things aren’t a certain way, we see them that way, it becomes truth, it becomes reality.”

13:05 – “I think the objective reality is more often a shared perception – and that can change.”

16:36 – “We have to start understanding the emotionality of how we work because everything has been created from that.”

18:28 – “So much of how we interact with people comes down to really understanding what our assumptions are that we don’t even realize we are making. And that is what is holding us back from building the things we want to build together and creating the world we want to create.”
